Karin Kajita Jazz Quintet

The Karin Kajita Jazz Quintet is a dynamic, entertaining hard bop quintet in the style of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. The instrumentation is trumpet, tenor sax, keys, bass and drums. We feature tunes by Kenny Dorham, Lee Morgan, Horace Silver, Hank Mobley, Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, Tommy Turrentine, Lee Morgan, Harold Land and others.  Hard bop was the path these players/composers took starting in the 50's, away from the more complex style of bebop and the laid-back, west coast style of cool jazz. It is blues/gospel/r&b oriented. We also play original compositions and arrangements by Karin.

The Quintet has played at Bumbershoot, the Anacortes Arts Fair, the Evergreen State Fair, the Shoreline Arts Fair, Seattle Jazz Vespers, the Bothell Arts Fair, Bainbridge Commons, Interbay Golf Course, Castle Key in Port Townsend,First Night in Tacoma, the Chinatown International District Summer Festival, Best of the NW Arts and Crafts Fair and other festivals. Many have been repeat performances. We have played at Collective Visions Gallery in Bremerton, Ricky's in Richmond Beach, Grazie in Canyon Park, Habitat for Humanity, Egan's Ballard Jam House, Bayview Retirement Center and other venues.
